Tidal > BubbleUPnP Android configured with Tidal as Library source > Push to JRiver MC Zone (Oppo DLNA) from within BubbleUPnP (can use OPPO DSP) Tidal to DLNA (Oppo or any other DLNA end point) Tidal > BubbleUPnP Android configured with Tidal as Library source > Push to JRiver MC Zone (Oppo DAC) from within BubbleUPnP (can use JRiver MC DSP) These are the options you have with Tidal without using the MC WDM driver. This is slightly off topic, but you can also get Google Chromecast audio compatible devices to show up as Zones in JRiver MC by configuring BubbleUPnP Server on your MC server.īack to Tidal. If you want to do DSP in the OPPO then use the OPPO as a DLNA point as described above. MC DSP funtionality doesnt work when pushing content to third party DLNA devices, but if the Oppo is plugged in as a DAC to a PC with MC running you can apply JRiver DSP that way for the OPPO.

When you want to play your own library just use JRemote.

Using the above approach you can use BubbleUPnP when you want to push Tidal to JRiver MC zones to have full control of DSP functionality within MC. If you have Chromecast Audio devices or Google Mini's around the house you can also stream Tidal to Google Chromecast groups and thereby have Tidal in complete sync to multiple devices around your house. You can then select any JRiver MC zones or any other DLNA output to stream Tidal from BubbleUPnP.

If you have an Android tablet or phone, install BubbleUPnP and configure it to login to your Tidal account. Unfortunately there is no way to stream Tidal direct from JRiver, but you can use JRiver as an end point for Tidal playback. Music fans have also been patiently waiting for Spotify to make good on its promise to launch Spotify HiFi, a lossless audio tier, but so far that has yet to happen. There are other ways to do this that dont involve WDM that are a bit cleaner to use while giving you remote control of Tidal playing to a MC zone.

Moreover, both Apple and Amazon offer their full hi-res catalog within their standard pricing tiers, while Tidal would make its own hi-res lossless offering a paid upgrade at almost twice the cost of those competing services. For as much as MQA has its critics, there are also those who believe the format can sound better than its lossless hi-res rivals. If Tidal were to drop MQA from its service, it would lose a major point of differentiation. With a move to support hi-res lossless FLAC audio, Tidal would join Amazon Music, Apple Music, Deezer, and Qobuz in the lossless hi-res streaming space. In an April 18 response, we were told that what was shared is all that Tidal has to share on the topic at the moment. We thought the use of the word “existing” in the description of the MQA catalog sounded like a way of saying that while MQA tracks will remain, the current catalog won’t be expanded, so we asked for clarification. Our existing MQA catalog will continue to be available on the platform.”

In an email sent on April 14, we were told, “To clarify, we are adding hi-res FLAC to the platform, as part of our TIDAL HiFi Plus subscription. Shortly after Dorogusker made his remarks on Reddit, Digital Trends reached out to Tidal to find out if the new hi-res lossless plans meant that the streaming service was considering abandoning MQA. At the moment, Tidal is the only major streaming music service that uses the MQA format. The timing raises questions about the future of MQA at Tidal. The MQA problem is compounded by the fact that if you want to hear MQA audio at its highest possible level, you need a device like a DAC/amp that can fully decode the MQA format.Ĭuriously, Dorogusker’s comments come just days after the company that oversees the MQA format (also known as MQA) announced that it will be entering into administration - the U.K. Some of the AMA participants referred to MQA as a scam and snake oil.Īt issue is the concern that MQA isn’t a truly lossless format like FLAC, which some audiophiles see as an impediment to getting the very best sound quality. Tidal HiFi Plus has always offered its listeners lossless FLAC audio at CD quality, but the company only streamed its Masters collection of better-than-CD quality hi-res tracks in the MQA format, something that many of Tidal’s customers have objected to.
